New.Old.Stock. is a blog dedicated to guitars, guitarists, and guitar music. The phrase “New Old Stock” refers to out-of-production, unused, off-the-shelf equipment or components available for sale or use in the modern day. Among guitarists, the phrase is most often used in reference to highly sought after vintage amplifier vacuum tubes. I chose it for this blog because I feel it reflects my own persona as a musician and human being. I have a possibly unhealthy “they don’t make them like they used to” mentality when it comes to certain things, especially music and musical instruments. That’s not to say I’m opposed to innovation or new developments in music, but I definitely appreciate a respectful nod toward the past.
Readers will find posts spotlighting some of my favorite artists (pickers); reviews of the latest guitar-centric albums (tunes); my player’s perspective on the latest guitars and gadgets (gear); the best and worst of my attempts at DIY gear mods (projects); and my personal growth and development as a guitarist (chops). I’ve been playing music for seventeen years, and guitar for about fourteen. I began gigging and recording in college, but then dropped off the scene for five years while in grad school and trying to start a career of the non-musical variety. This blog is part of my effort to get back into music in a serious way, and hopefully connect with other musicians and music fans.
I look forward to comments and feedback (of the constructive variety), and hope you find some of the content worthwhile.
Peace and good picking!
